Yesterday, Hailey was watching me "try" to feed Grace. Grace has declared her independence and does not like anyone else to hold her spoon or fork. So when something like soup or oatmeal is on the menu things get interesting. I had already given her a bath and she was in clean pajamas, so I really wanted to feed her the oatmeal myself. As Hailey is watching this she says very casually, "It's a lot of work for you to take care of all these kids". I said yes it is. Then she says "I can see that it's especially hard for you". I wasn't really sure how to take this. Should I be grateful she recognizes the challenges in being a mother and the sacrifices I make. Or should I feel insulted that a 5 year old thinks this is hard for me! Hailey is always catching me off guard with her quick wit and her perception of things.
Grace now says uh-oh, which is really surprising. We hardly ever say that, yet we try to teach her dog, cat, and eat but she won't say those words. We hear this word all the time, since there are many uh-ohs at our house:)
After school I asked Dallin how his day was. Before he could answer, Hailey said, "I had a bad day at school". Dallin asked her what was bad about it and she said "I don't know, it was just bad".
Ben and I went to back to school night last week and talked with the kids teachers. Dallin was first assigned a seat in the back of the class but has been moved to the very front because his teacher said he is so quiet she has to kneel beside him just to hear him. She also said he is such a good kid and is so glad to have him in her class. Then we went to Hailey's classroom and the first thing her teacher told us was "Hailey is very talkative". They are both so different and unique in their own special ways and we are so blessed to have them in our family.

1 want to talk about it:
LOL, Hailey cracks me up. I don't know if I would know how to take her comment either. That is one to remember! :) Yeah, still chuckling... maybe cause I can imagine your frustration trying to feed Grace. McKay hasn't gotten to where he won't let me hold the spoon but he always wants to hold it too, making things interesting. Sounds like more 'independence' fun is coming up!
